Cognitive Behavioural Therapy – CBT is a major part of the work we do at Manchester Hypnotherapy. We know that CBT is an extremely effective, quick therapy. And research shows its effectiveness is magnified when it’s used together with hypnosis. The same techniques are used as in traditional CBT. But then the suggestions and ideas are also given by the therapist whilst you are in hypnosis.

Doing it this way enables you to really pay attention to the suggestions. When you’re in hypnosis – a state of very deep relaxation – you’re not distracted, either by your anxiety or anything else. So it’s much easier to focus. The average number of sessions of CBT needed to successfully overcome your problem is 20 – 25. CBT + Hypnosis takes on average just 3-6 sessions to achieve the same results.

What is CBT?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy refers to therapy dealing with the thoughts, beliefs, and behaviours which cause negative, unhelpful feelings. These include anxiety, stress and depression emotional problems such as jealousy, and phobias. CBT + Hypnosis teaches you to identify such thoughts.

CBT concentrates on removal of symptoms, rather than in going back and examining the root causes. This is more effective than treatments which look at why the problem arose in the first place. A therapist who doesn’t use a CBT approach may treat you for many months or even years. But finding the cause of your problem does not necessarily help it. If you have a stone in your shoe, you want to remove the stone. It probably doesn’t matter how it got into your shoe in the first place!
